The average African walks 4-to-6 miles a day to collect water from a polluted water source to use for cooking, drinking or bathing. The water that they have no other choice than to use for such needs will plague their health, rob them of their time in life and stifle their financial productivity.

For most African families, water does not conveniently arrive to their home through intricate piping systems as it does for us. In fact, for 884 million people, the water that they tirelessly bring home is not only unclean but unsafe. Additionally, nearly 2.5 billion people lack the access to improved sanitation. Sadly, the lack of these fundamental resources will lead to water related diseases which will claim more lives this year than guns, cancer or even war.

Many times the water sources that these people are forced to use, are in locations where animals of Africa are also using them at the very same time for drinking and of course where the animals also “pass their bodily content” back into the waters. That’s right, these poor people wash their clothes here, bath here and pull water from here to take to their homes for drinking and cooking purposes. What would you do if this was your ONLY choice for water? What can you do to make a difference for an individual, a family, even for a community?
